Are you looking for Tai Chi CHUAN, or Tai Chi QIGONG? It's important to know the difference:

TAI CHI CHUAN is a martial art. A continuous learning discipline to focus the mind and train the body

It requires weekly attendance in class as learning is progressive, week on week. Commiting the movements to memory via practice at home is necessary. TAI CHI CHUAN is not suited for people with painful knee / hip problems. Beginners Courses start  in September and January and  new beginners should start at / near the beginning of a term. We only teach single-level classes, beginners wth beginners, improvers with improvers so you won't feel out of your depth or held back.

QIGONG (Tai Chi Qigong or Health Qigong) on the other hand can be started at any time throughout the year. It utilises the elements of Tai Chi which promote great health of body and mind - mindful movement, correct posture, breathing techniques and relaxation. It leaves out the martial arts elements, making it easier to learn.  Many people looking for a slow health promoting exercise class will prefer Tai Chi QIGONG.  We offer several weekly Tai Chi Qigong classes which can be joined at any time. More info about the differences at the bottom of this page

 Tai Chi Chuan

 Tai Chi Martial Arts

This class teaches authentic Chen Style Tai Chi Chuan, martial arts based training (chuan means 'fist) delivered in the same way that our instructor is taught by her teacher, three times China national champion, Master Wang Haijun. Weekly attendance in class and regular practice at home is required. We recommend that you buy Master Wang's DVD (£18) and /or book £15, to help you practice at home. No other equipment / uniform required

Choose Tai Chi Chuan if you are relatively fit and well and are looking to devote time and physical / mental effort to learn an art for a lifetime that will develop body, mind and spirit.   Tai Chi Chuan is taught as a progressive class and can normally only be started at / near the beginning of a term, unless you have previous experience. Not suitable for people with  painful joint issues.  Pay weekly

Tai Chi-Qigong

 Tai Chi Energy Exercises

A less strenuous Tai Chi exercise and wellbeing class without any martial arts content. What the majority of Westerneers  think of when Tai Chi  is mentioned. Suitable those who may not be able to attend every week, or for those looking for a class where the emphasis is on enjoyable,  moderate movement to improve health, without the necessity to challenge body or mind too much.  Overall much easier to learn than the Tai Chi Chuan option above, whilst still retaining the more 'iconic' tai chi way of movement. We focus on using the body in a relaxed way,  correcting postural habits and developing mindfulness of our actions, a useful skill ineveryday life :) Some movements involve visualisation techniques - soaring above life's stresses like an eagle, or sweeping away the pressures of the day like water washing away footprints on a beach. Pay when you come

Come and discover the Ancient Eastern way to health and happiness
